Depression And Anger

Anger is ordinarily a natural way people respond to frustration that arises when they are not able to get what they want or when they feel others do not care about them or the way they feel. Depression and anger are in some way related as anger tends to result in depression in time. When a person is angry he/she tends to fight the problem. However when individuals give up fighting the issue they may become depressed.

Depression and anger can be said to have some similar causes which include frustration along with a feeling of not getting enough respect from others. In cases of depression many individuals also eventually tend to dislike themselves or suffer from low self esteem. Thoughts are responsible for affecting depression as well as anger. Negative thoughts about others or self can result in increased depression and anger. It is therefore advisable to identify negative thinking and replace it with positivity. Moods and expectations also tend to affect both anger as well as depression. Identifying these moods and how they affect you can go a long way in reducing anger and depression.

Depression and anger are also closely related as with anger individuals are more likely to behave in impulsive ways and when things do not work out it may result in depression, self loathing and guilt. With depression and anger there are certain behavior patterns and body language that can point out anger or depression. The body language of anger include tooth grinding, flushed face, cursing and vulgar language, blaming others and procrastination. The body language of depression includes a slumped posture, slow movements, and loss of pleasure, fatigue and guilt.

Depression and anger cycles can result in individuals suffering from stress related problems like insomnia, muscle tension and high blood pressure. These individuals may also experience periods of high energy followed by extreme fatigue. Depression can be treated after careful evaluation of the case and identification of the symptoms along with their duration and severity. Antidepressant medication can prove to be effective for depression.

While treating depression and anger therapy also plays an important role and can particularly help individuals shed the burden of anger. It is important for those experiencing intense anger to live in the moment and let go of the past including the real or perceived injuries and painful memories. Therapy can provide individuals with tools to remain in the present moment and to forgive those who have done wrong. Meditation and breathing exercises or specific relaxation techniques can also go a long way in getting over the anger.

Exercise plays an important role in dealing with both depression and anger. Exercise causes release of endorphins and these are responsible for helping individuals feel better. Exercise is also a great way to release the tension caused by anger. Anger and depression is particularly experienced by those individuals who have experienced some traumatic events. If anger is largely responsible for the depressed state then it is important to take counseling as it can help in bringing the anger into the open and this can help individuals to deal with the anger and the depression effectively.
